the Waldorf Astoria in Paris
In 2005, the Waldorf Astoria was searching for a property in Paris to locate their first European Hotel. A bureaucratic 'Belle Epoque' Building near the Arc de Triomphe was selected for STUDIOS Architecture to perform a feasibility study and create a presentation that would act as a 'Lender's Package', which would be given to potential investors inorder to secure funding for the ambitious project.
The Design
Partnering with our Paris Studio, the New York based Design Team received Site Photos and a Site Survey to work with for our local Clients who selected our International Architecture Practice due to its locations and work history in both cities. The timeline was aggressive given the Paris Property was being considered by other Owners to purchase, so the team worked together to tackle the workload of test-fitting the building to become a profitable hotel as well as generating seductive images of what the final result would be (prior to a lengthy design process).
Knowing that a 3D model would take far too long to generate convincing imagery of a Classical Haussmann Building, I chose to work solely in Black & White and collage together site photos of the spaces along with smaller 3D Models of Millwork; including photos of Furniture, Decor and People to create Images of what the Building would look like as a Hotel.
The final result was a cohesive presentation that provided the analytics for investors to see the profitability of a long-term historical renovation, as well as imagery that give the illusion of what the Waldorf Astoria in Paris may Look and Feel like.
Epilogue
Ultimately, the Building was sold to a Middle Eastern Real Estate Company who offered a higher sum and was planning on developing it into a hotel.
